Tom Holland knows the “whole plan” for his Spider-Man exit.
The 30-year-old Spider-Man: Brand New Day actor has played Peter Parker and his web-slinging alter ego in six movies since 2016 and he’s now revealed there’s a strategy in place for his exit – explaining he already knows exactly how he’s going to bow out of the superhero franchise and “the baton” to the next actor who will tackle the role.
During an appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Tom explained: “There’s a whole plan that we have been working on for, I would say, since we finished [2021’s] Spider-Man: No Way Home.
“It’s laid out. It’s gonna change for sure, but I have a really clear vision to the passing on of the baton, and I think it’s really exciting.
“I know I get really excited when we have these meetings and chat about it. But that is the thing I want to do most in this character, for sure.”
Tom is the third actor to play Spider-Man on the big screen following in the footsteps of Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield.
The actor previously opened up about his love for the franchise and insisted he’ll always have a great time at work with his filmmaking “family”.
Speaking the Dish from Waitrose podcast, he said: “It’s honestly like, it’s such a pleasure [playing Spider-Man] – and it is not something that I think I will ever get tired of.
“You know, I, I think there’s something so special about Peter Parker as a character. That I think people just love him because he feels like just a regular human being. He’s so relatable.
“But then behind the scenes, there’s such an amazing community of people that have been on every single one of these movies- and it really does feel like a family.
“And I think in our industry there’s so many unknowns, you know, you make new movies, you meet an entirely new group of people. It’s so lovely to have that one thing in your life which feels like a homecoming.”
For the latest outing, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Tom was allowed more involvement in his character so spent a lot of time studying what fans were hoping for in order to add their input to the film.
He said: “For me, playing the character, being in the movies, it’s just been such a pleasure and I’ve really got to grow up, you know, on this new movie I had a lot more responsibility.
“I was welcomed into the writers’ room and worked with the director- and collaborated on like what the film should be.
“And I think what I’ve really enjoyed is spending, you know, months and months and months just looking at what the fans wanted online.
“So, I felt like when I was in the room with the writers, I was like the representative of the fans.”
